This has already been mentioned but I thought it should have it's own post. Stone called Hitler a "scapegoat" when he was promoting his show "The Secret History of the United States". That got some to basically call Stone a Hitler apologist. He set the record straight in Thailand: "Hitler is a monster. There is no question. I have no empathy for Hitler at all. He was a crazy psychopath. But like Frankenstein was a monster, there was a Dr. Frankenstein. He is the product of his era". So let me get this straight. The director of "Born on the 4rth of July" and "World Trade Center" doesn't think Hitler was a swell guy? That's surprising. That's on a par with the lawyers who tried to prove Stone wanted to promote violence with "Natural Born Killers". A lot of Stone's critics don't look very far.
